Neuropathy

Just like any other part of the body, your nervous system plays a vital role in your body’s ability to function. This complex system of nerves works to coordinate and deliver sensory information through a series of signals. Without it, we wouldn't be able to detect important changes in our environment. But what happens when our nerves become damaged? Neuropathy is the term used to describe damage to the peripheral nerves and here at Bakke Chiropractic Clinic, we treat the pain and dysfunction neuropathy causes.

.

Signs and Symptoms of Neuropathy

The symptoms of this condition vary by person. Common symptoms of neuropathy include numbness, tingling, itching, crawling, tremors, cramps, and impairment in sensation. In most long-term cases of neuropathy, pain will appear alongside paresthesia. Weakness and dizziness are less common as symptoms, but will occasionally show up. Some people also report an abnormal gait. If you experience any of these symptoms on a frequent basis, consult a chiropractor for help. You may have neuropathy.

Causes of Neuropathy

There is a broad group of conditions that could result in neuropathy. Autoimmune disease, diabetes, infection, disease, and disorders are usually the cause of neuropathy. Less common causes include certain medications, alcohol abuse, toxin exposure, vitamin deficiency, and physical trauma. Speaking with a doctor and undergoing certain tests may be able to narrow down the cause of a patient's problems.

Neuropathy Prevention

If you are looking to avoid developing a condition like neuropathy, avoid alcohol, smoking, and repetitive motions that put extra pressure on your nerves. Also make sure to exercise and eat a  healthy diet.  These lifestyle choices will significantly reduce your risk of neuropathy.
